If that were the case, I wouldn't think it would then jump up to 2.54GB used with the new sticks. Just hoping to confirm it isn't something major that I should be concerned about.Ī friend had speculated that the missing 0.55GB off of the one stick might be being diverted towards the graphics side of things, being an APU and all. "testing purposes" as her computer is rocking an AMD HD 7xxxx (albiet as APU) whereas I am still using an AMD HD 5850 (full card.) Wanted to hear that baby purr!Īll in all, I don't think it will really be an issue for her, as she rarely does more than check Facebook and few the occasional YouTube video. and, no, she definitely doesn't need Portal 2. Note: back on the original BIOS settings for these sticks. That's actually my old ram from this computer, before upgrading it last year. Same issue, except now it's showing 2.46GB usable. In further trying to diagnose the issue, I took the ram from my computer (8GB) and threw it in hers. My motherboard, an ASUS F2A55-M LK+, is sporting the AUS UEFI BOIS, and I can't seem to find that option, and one thread suggested not to even try that with UEFI. The other big thing seems to be ensuring that Memory Remapping is enabled in the BIOS. In researching the issue, I see a lot of, "you're on 32-bit, right?" In my case, I am not I'm using Win7 64-bit for this build. Checking the System menu, I see that windows recognizes all 4GB of installed memory, but only a mere 1.45GB is "usable." After returning to the computer a short time later, I was greeted with a notification that Windows forced Steam to shut down because of insufficient memory. While waiting for the countless windows updates to finish up, I decided I would prepare to put the APU, an AMD Trinity, through it's paces by installing Steam and Portal 2. I just pieced together a new computer for my mother.
